PURIM PRIDE…A TIME FOR JEWS TO SURVIVE & THRIVE

It’s once again time to celebrate Purim, a most joyous time of year. We remember the triumph of Mordechai and Queen Esther, overcoming the evil Haman, who sought the extinction of the Jews. Instead, it was he who became extinct–being hung on the gallows he built for the Jews! Ever since, Jews the world over commemorate the occasion through prayer and, yes, partying!

We read the Megillah (the Book of Esther) twice, once in the evening and once in the morning. It’s a day to provide charity to the poor and give Shalach Manos (gifts of food) to friends and family. We eat a festive meal and many dress in costume. It’s also the custom to drink alcohol until “one does not know the difference between Mordechai and Haman!”

Of course, the Cruger Avenue Synagogue will be offering Purim Services and a fantastic Purim Party. Hear the reading of the Megillah, then eat, drink and make merry! As always, all events are FREE OF CHARGE!
